The Lucerne Academy for Human Rights Implementation is open to both practitioners and law students. In order to be considered for admission, applicants must either complete the online application or download the application form here, and submit it to the address on the form.
NEW THIS YEAR:
Early Bird Application Deadline: February 28, 2010
Interested students are encouraged to apply as soon as possible. Admissions decisions are made on a rolling basis. We have a maximum enrollment of 30 students for the upcoming 2010 session. This year we are offering an early bird application deadline. Those who apply by this deadline will be given an admissions decision right away and a strong advantage over other applicants. If you are a student from a country which requires a visa to enter Switzerland, you are strongly encouraged to apply by this deadline so that we may initiate the visa application process as soon as possible.
Law practitioners interested in receiving a certificate of participation are encouraged to contact the Academy office for more specific fee and certificate arrangements.
Law students must generally satisfy the following requirements:
You must be what one would consider an “advanced” law student. For students enrolled in a Bologna model school, this means that you must either currently be enrolled in a Masters level (MLaw or comparable) program or be eligible for such an enrollment by the Fall semester 2010 (You are still eligible if you still need to fulfill certain requirements, such as certain Bachelor level exams or qualifying exams, before being eligible for Masters level studies). For United States students, this means that you will have completed at least one year of studies in a full-time J.D. program by the beginning of the program (or the equivalent in a part-time program). For all others, please contact the Academy office for questions about admission.
Completion of a class in public international law or international human rights law preferred although not required.
Good command of English. The Academy is conducted in English in its entirety, and students are required to actively participate, both orally and in writing, in the coursework and the moot court exercise.
If you are interested in applying, please continue on to our online application
If you have submitted your application successfully online, a confirmation page should appear, and within 2-3 days of submission, you should receive a confirmation e-mail. If you have received neither of these, please download the application (using the link above) and e-mail it to the Academy Coordinator at
